The Lequin family represent a long lineage of Burgundian producers; their presence in Santenay dates back to 1679. The first vintage of Lequin-Colin arrived in 1976, a few years after the marriage of René Lequin and Josette Colin, a multi-generational descendant of wine makers from Chassagne-Montrachet.

Today, their son François is custodian of the 9 hectares of vines, stretching across Premier and Grand Cru sits in Santenay, Chassagne-Montrachet, Pommard and Corton. With a devotion to authenticity and quality, the Lequin-Colin vineyard has been ploughed since 1997 and organically farmed since 2009. Francois’ meticulous methods in the vineyards and winery showcase a truly site-expressive portfolio, as he prefers a minimal intervention approach to best showcase both individual site character and the resulting personality in the purity of fruit that is produced. The wines are perfumed, full bodied yet charmingly elegant in equal measure; they are versatile wines that can be enjoyed young, when expressing fresh fruit aromas, or cellar-aged for a more powerful, developed and mature profile.

Wines:

  • Bourgogne Blanc ‘Back to the Roots’ 2020 – aromas of juicy fruit, drawing from clementine on the nose, adding Seville-orange zest, and the broad brushstroke of spice, taking on the more precise flavours of liquorice, cinnamon and clove; laden with a sense of richness despite the relatively low alcohol.
  • Santenay Blanc ‘Les Hâtes’ 2021 – this wine shows aromas of yellow fruits alongside a lighter note of brioche and bread crumbs. The palate is smooth, with lively acidity and a long, indulgent finish.
  • Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru ‘Les Vergers’ 2021 – Lequin’s Vergers is the most taut in the Premier Cru range; aged for 12 months in barrel, leading to a structured and full bodied wine, with flavours of stone fruit, citrus and brioche.
  • Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru ‘Morgeot’ 2021 – reminiscent of the classic Chassagne style, the 1er Cru Morgeot has a lovely minerality characteristic, marrying both delicacy and a rounded, richer body. The fresh palate has a plethora of flavour; toasty, textured and rich with great length. Peach, lemon skin and pear notes drive the finish, with a lingering, bright acidity.
  • Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2020 – ripe, rounded plum and blackberry aromas with a savoury mouthfeel. Black fruits complement the complexity with and lots of freshness on the mid-palate and finish.
  • Santenay rouge ‘Vieilles Vignes’ 2020 – showing aromas of red fruits with a subtle hint of clove and liquorice. The palate is rounded, powerful and structured with soft and subtle tannins. A persistent and long finish accentuates the elegant core.
  • Santenay 1er Cru ‘La Comme’ 2020 –ruby red in colour with a slightly purple hint. The nose is marked by red fruits with finely herbaceous notes and a suggestion of light spice. On the palate, it has a beautiful freshness and length.
  • Bourgogne Chardonnay 2019  – delicate aromas of fresh citrus and just a hint of stone fruit and slightly creamier mid palate compliments the minerality, precise acidity and largely linear complexion.
  • Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 2020 – a complete contrast to the Chassagne’s and the epitome of power and structure meeting absolute elegance; fine and silky, especially delicate on the mid palate. Lemon zest and garden herbs aid the fresh and floral nature with a rounded, rich mouthfeel and super long finish.
