Canvasback is following the model established decades ago by Duckhorn Vineyards, and combines grapes from top growers with fruit from Canvasback’s own estate vineyards to create wines that are as complex as they are captivating.

Using grapes from some of Red Mountain’s most acclaimed vineyards, the debut vintage of Canvasback Red Mountain Washington State Cabernet Sauvignon was born in 2012. Though Red Mountain is one of the smallest appellations in Washington State, it is one of the most widely renowned. With ideal soils, a perfect sloping southwestern exposure, and a dry desert climate, Red Mountain has done more than just establish itself as perhaps the finest region in Washington for growing Cabernet Sauvignon; it is rapidly earning a reputation for producing some of the most compelling and distinctive Cabernet Sauvignons in the New World. The estate’s vineyard-focused approach to winemaking played a key role in developing Canvasback’s bold, beautifully structured style. Canvasback expresses the depth, structure and sophistication of defined wines from the young and exciting Red Mountain appellation.

Today, Canvasback is guided by winemaker Joseph Czarny, guiding the evolution of an acclaimed portfolio that, having begun with Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, has grown to include Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Merlot and Riesling from Washington State. Joseph works collaboratively alongside vineyard manager Dick Boushey and Canvasback’s grower partners to capture the terroir-driven diversity of great Washington winemaking.
